Your Life Is Your Life, Don’t Let It Be Clubbed Into Dank Submission

Yet another gem from Charles Bukowski.

What if someone told you, your life is not your own?

If someone said that to me, my first reaction would be to deny it — merely out of reflex. I imagine many people would have the same reaction.

After all, that’s what we instinctively understand. All individuals are in charge of their own lives. I own mine, you own yours. We’re all sovereigns of our mind and body. That’s what we’re naturally inclined to believe.

However, upon even the slightest reflection, we’d realize that’s not necessarily the case. A lot (like a LOT) of people don’t actually own their lives.

Each of us lives within our own cages, bound to our own chains.

Clubbed Into Dank Submission

Now, what do I mean by that?

In the back of your mind, I know you know what I mean. Everyone surely has moments where they’re inundated by doubt and confusion, even the strongest, wealthiest, and wisest among us.

It’s a very human thing to feel feeble, vulnerable, helpless — but even so, at the very least, you should still have yourself to depend on, right?
